The FDA finally admitted that the chicken sold in the United States contains cancer causing agent, arsenic. The dangerous chemical is included in the chicken feed. The FDA admitted that over 70% of chicken sold includes arsenic.
What is Arsenic? Arsenic is an element found in nature, and in man-made products including pesticides. I don’t know about you, but i do not want to consume any food that has a leading pesticide chemical in it. Long-term exposure to arsenic in low doses may change the way cells communicate, and it can reduce their ability to function. It could certainly play a role in the development of diabetes, cancer, vascular disease, and heart disease. The Food and Drug Administration says that long-term exposure to high levels of arsenic is associated with higher rates of skin cancer, bladder cancer, and lung cancer.
Arsenic sure sounds like a dangerous chemical, so why would it be in our food? It is a naturally occurring element that is found in soil and water. It is also used as a pesticide by farmers. Much like lead, mercury, and other heavy metals in the soil, over the years it starts to affect our crops. Studies show that arsenic shows up in a higher percentage of crops grown around a river. You can read more on how farmers use arsenic here.
It has been discovered that we have been consuming arsenic in our chicken products for over 5 decades. Their claim is not scientifically proven, but they say that “arsenic is excreted through the chicken’s feces.” Evidence can not be denied, however, causing the chicken manufacturer Roxarsone to be pulled from the shelves.
Do not forget that the FDA does approve the use of arsenic in our food. Here are some ways you can protect yourself. Always check the date on the package.
The fat content of the chicken should be white to deep yellow, and not pasty or gray. Avoid the chicken if it is unnaturally bright pink in color. Always choose “Certified Organic” meat products, to be sure that you and your family consume safe products.
