Some of our grandparents are known for having some of the most effective and strange home remedies for everything under the sun. These are just a few of the crazy things I’ve heard from mine!
Sure, they might not be something we always think to do but with one phone call to grandma, we know exactly what is needed when it comes to anything from a swollen ankle to sunburn. These remedies are amazing and should be the first thing you turn to in most cases. Enjoy!
Bad Breath Remedy

Earache Remedy
Squeeze lemon juice onto a q-tip and put it in your ear or drop some in your ear with a dropper. This is something many grandparents do and tell their relatives to do. The lemon in this is supposed to stabilize the pH levels in your ear and make them feel better.
many grandparents swear by nettles as a remedy for hair loss. The nettle leaf contains things like calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, and many different vitamins. These things are actually able to work miracles when it comes to hair growth and maintenance. Granted we shouldn’t use it too much but it can be used!
Menopause Remedy
Yams, these tend to have a much rougher and thicker skin than sweet potatoes and are overflowing with nutritional value. They contain some vitamin A and are high in vitamin C this will help to balance out your hormones and lower your cholesterol.
Arthritis Remedy
These tiny little shriveled up snacks can ease arthritis symptoms. Soak golden raisins overnight in a few spoonfuls of gin and the mixture of these two will help reduce swelling and ease the pain from arthritis.
Motion Sickness Remedy
Sure it sounds like it wouldn’t work but it does! Olives are high in tannins which are known to stop the production of too much saliva. As you may have noticed when you’re getting that ‘going to be sick feeling’ having too much saliva in your mouth is enough to make you hurl.
Indigestion Remedy
Dried apricots help people digest their food better. This is because they are high in dietary fibers. These dietary fibers literally help your stomach digest its food and it also prevents bloating.
Urinary tract infections are the worst. Adding baking soda to a glass of water and drinking it will help relieve some of the symptoms associated with your UTI. This is because it works towards making your bladder more alkaline which prevents harmful bacteria from multiplying.
Spider Bite Remedy
Raw potatoes, these are known for their anti-itch and anti-inflammatory properties. That is exactly what you need when treating a spider bite. Wrapping a raw sliced potato with a bandage or something similar to the affected are for ten to twenty minutes will help you in more ways than you’d think.
Sunburn Remedy
If your grandparents are anything like mine they insist on the necessity of having an aloe vera plant in your home. If you don’t want to go out and get one chances are they will give you one. When dealing with sunburn cut one of the big leaves off and then peel the skin back of the leave. Take the gel out of the leave and apply it to the sunburned skin. You will instantly feel the difference. Aloe Vera gel is the best thing for sunburn.
Nausea Remedy
Eat fresh ginger powder when dealing with nausea. This will eliminate nausea and have you feeling much better in no time.
