As human beings, we tend to feel as if we should be the powers behind our own fate. We want to be in charge of every aspect of our lives.
When things happen in our lives being told not to do something is generally seen as a threat to our freedom of choice. When this happens an arousal in our brain is born. This arousal compels us to do things we are told we should not do. We are always attracted to the things we are told not to do. There is a psychological aspect of this that has been explored on more than one occasion.
AsapSCIENCE has taken the time to look at how this sort of thing can affect our behaviors and the ways in which we think. If your mom told you not to eat cookies before bed chances are you still did, right? This is much more common than you’d think. Everyone has done something like that at one point or another in their life. We are very curious beings and are easily drawn in.
When we do something we aren’t supposed to within reason, we get a surge of pleasure from having accomplished such. Our brain actually gives us a boost of dopamine in most cases and this makes doing something we are told not to do even more fulfilling. The video below is filled with information on this subject. Please do not take the time to watch it.
