Asthma is something a large number of people deal with on a daily basis. It is often present during childhood and some people with treatment can live a normal life with little to no symptoms.
That being said, this is still an issue that is related to well over three thousand deaths a year. Some people who have asthma are afraid of partaking in the smoking of marijuana because they think like smoking tobacco it will make their condition worse, however, it will not make your condition worse at all. According to several new studies, it has been proved that cannabis has almost no impact at all on lung health long-term. One study actually concluded that cannabis is helpful to those who suffer from asthma.
This is because cannabis does not restrict the airways, it opens them up. In this study published in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, by using guinea pigs researchers were able to measure the ability of cannabinoids to inhibit bronchoconstriction. These researchers specifically looked at CBD, THC, CBG, CBD-A, and THC-V cannabinoids. The study showed that the THC and THC-V were actually highly effective and THC-V was able to prevent constriction with ease.
Another reason as to why cannabis is good for those suffering from asthma has to do with inflammation, inflammation in the airways restricts airflow to the lungs. Cannabis can help with this because it has anti-inflammatory properties that intercept with cannabinoid receptors in our bodies, some of which involve our lungs. You may also be aware that cannabis can help people who deal with seizures or muscle spasms as well, this is possible because it calms the muscles. It can also calm the muscles in your lungs and increase the flow of oxygen in the process. There has been a study done on the effectiveness of cannabis in treating muscle spasms that showed this does work.
If you suffer from asthma and still are not comfortable with the actual act of smoking marijuana it has been found that vaping cannabis is just as effective. You can also partake in the use of edibles depending on what you would prefer. You always have options and when it comes to breathing there is nothing more important. Would you smoke cannabis if it got rid of your asthma for good?
