While some of us may tolerate spiders more than others none of us want them crawling around in our houses, right? The best thing to do is repel them in a naturally way.
Now, you may be thinking that there is no possible way to get rid of them and keep them away without harming them. However, that is not true. You can repel these creatures naturally. Here are ten natural ways to keep spiders out of your home.
Citrus
Spiders do not like anything citrus. Rubbing citrus peel (orange or lemon whatever you prefer) on the areas in which you see spiders the most will cause them to look elsewhere for shelter. Try implementing some sort of lemon scented furniture polish if you feel your spider issue is severe.
Using cedar mulch outside your home can work towards preventing them from entering. This is not because of the spiders not liking cedar as it does not affect them. Insects do not like cedar which means using it can prevent insect infestations this cuts back on the amount of food in and around your home for the spiders to consume. Limiting their food source will force them to move further away. Using cedar blocks inside closets and drawers while it might sound strange is quite effective.
Chestnuts have been used for driving spiders away for quite some time now. You can keep these in your house for a long time before they go bad which makes them even better. Sit a few in your windowsills and see how things go.
Making sure the exterior of your home is up to par will prevent intruders from the begin with. Keep your yard free of grass clippings, leaves, and anything that would look like a spider hangout. Check all doors and windows to make sure there are no openings.
Get A Cat
Spiders do not like cats for the same reason that rats and mice do not like them. Cats can be fantastic hunters and will not allow a spider to crawl across your floor without taking care of it. While the cat can harm some spiders it will also prevent future spiders in some cases.
Tobacco
Spiders do not like tobacco. Sprinkle small bits of this where you know spiders spend their time. You can also soak tobacco in water and spray the mixture throughout your home.
Spiders are also not fans of white vinegar. Spraying vinegar around your home will repel them quite efficiently. The smell of vinegar is not so bad when weighed against not seeing any more spiders. Be sure to spray it in all the cracks you find.
This is probably the cheapest way to reduce the number of spiders you see in your home. Be sure to keep your home dust free, and cobweb free. Vacuum regularly and stay clutter free, this will prevent your home from becoming a spider motel. This will also rid them of their food source forcing them to move on out.
Most people are not aware that spiders hate peppermint with a passion. Mix peppermint essential oil with water in a spray bottle and go to town spraying each and every area of your home. It will leave your house smelling fantastic and keep the spiders at bay.
Natural Spider Repellent
Using this combination will work wonders. This is probably my favorite out of all the things on this list. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of white vinegar
- 2 cups water
- 40 drops of peppermint oil
- spray bottle
Directions:
- Mix all of these things together in the spray bottle.
- Spray on windowsills as well as doors and crevices.
While many of these might sound outrageous they really do work. It appears spiders are quite sensitive to strong scents. While we love the smell of peppermint and some of the other things mentioned above they absolutely cannot stand them. Who knew! Try implementing at least five of these in your home to rid yourself of spiders with little effort.
