Since the beginning of research on the medicinal benefits of Marijuana, we’ve seen nothing but evidence that it kills cancer! The Pharma companies hate it, but here is more evidence that cannabis causes cancer cells to commit suicide!
A Molecular Biologist that goes by the name Christina Sanchez, proved that marijuana’s active ingredient THC kills cancer cells. The study was performed in 1998, at the University of Madrid. This was only the first report that THC can kill cancer cells. The study showed that THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) induces the suicide of a cancer cell. The compound literally makes a cancer cell eat itself from the outside in. That isn’t even the best part! As opposed to modern cancer treatment methods like chemotherapy, the THC compound kills cancer cells without harming the healthy cells at all! This should have been one of the most renowned studies on Earth. However, i’m sure the Pharma companies found a way to quiet down the riot about the results. We all know that without cancer, the pharmacy companies would be broke. They aren’t going to have that, so further research on marijuana and other natural cancer fighting remedies are usually shut down due to that fact.
This wasn’t the only study on the cancer fighting abilities of Marijuana. In 2007, Harvard also published a study on the topic. Their study is one of the most comprehensive researches on marijuana. It showed significant results and demonstrated that medical marijuana could literally save lives! The study showed that in just three weeks, Lung Cancer tumors in mice growth rate had been cut in half! Human lung cancer cells were implanted on the lungs of mice. After a period of growth, the researchers injected the tumors with THC. Growth of the tumors were significantly affected, and some tumors were even disappearing. Specific receptors are stimulated by chemicals called Cannabinoids. This chemical is the most active in Marijuana. The stimulation of the receptors throughout the body produce pharmacological effects. The most affected areas of the body are the Central Nervous System and the Immune System.
Dr. Christina Sanchez, the lead researcher on the 1998 study says, “Cells can die in different ways, and after cannabinoid treatment, they were dying on the road clean – they were committing suicide. One advantage of cannabinoids is that target specifically tumor cells. They have no toxic effect on normal cells, not tumor. And this is an advantage over standard chemotherapy, which basically runs everything. I can not understand why the US cannabis is in Schedule I, since it is quite obvious, not only our work, but from the work of many other researchers, the plant has very broad therapeutic potential.” Cannabinoids are entered into the natural endocannabinoid system in the body. They regulate many biological functions of the body such as appetite, food intake, behavior, and reproduction. Due to this, tumor cells enter a state of apoptosis. Apoptosis is the process of self destruction. So, the cannabinoids literally force the tumor cells to kill themselves off. Healthy cells are not damaged through this process, as it is a completely natural occurrence.
Due to the mounds of positive and evidence based research, you would assume that Medical Marijuana research would be further pushed. But, unfortunately, it hasn’t. In fact, Marijuana is still federally illegal and is labelled as a schedule one drug – saying that it is equally as dangerous as meth, cocaine, and heroin. A change starts one person at time. Once it comes time to vote for state officials, just remember that the approval of medical marijuana could literally save lives. The facts are there, the research is accurate, and the truth is out.
